Centromeres and Kinetochores
Overview
Quick facts

The centromere is a cis-acting DNA locus, present once per chromosome and serves as the chromosomal binding site of spindle microtubulues. Kinetochores are proteinaceous structures formed between centromeric DNA and spindle microtubulues.  Proper centromere function is absolutely necessary for high fidelity chromosome segregation during cell division.
